Ben's thesis

It is unacceptable to know what is the right thing to do and not do it merely as a result of cowardice.

Edited Version:
An individual citizen bears the responsibility, morally if not legally, to act when capable to prevent undue harm to his neighbor.

  2. I agree that we all need to do the right thing, but it all depends on what “the right thing to do” is. We have to be careful not to out step our boundaries.

  3. I agree with this statement because if you see something bad happen to someone else and not do anything about it is not okay. I am excited to hear more. VM.

  4. I agree but what should be done and should you still do it if it puts you in danger or oversteps your rights as a citizen ....Brianna

  5. I agree; I think being a good Samaritan is a courageous thing to do but it's difficult if there's a risk of getting hurt or being responsible for escalating the danger.

  6. I most definetly agree. I think so many people are too worried about themselves and their own problem, we have become a selfish society. This reminds me of that video of that little girl in China, how could so many people see her lying in the street dying and do NOTHING! Just step over her and keep going on with their business. It made me sick! I know that is an extreme case but it just goes to show how global this problem really is. -Jennifer

  8. I agree. We are required to do the right thing, when someone is in trouble, or something illegal is happening. But, we should try to be smart about it. Sometimes, we are required by law to do the right thing, and failure to do so will put us in trouble with the law.

  9. I agree that one should help out a neighbor if they are capable in order to prevent undue harm however there needs to be a boundary. One should not be expected to expose themselves to undue harm.

  10. I couldn't agree more man. Your first speech was awesome, and I am sure you will find that this one will be easier to write. There's so many sources out there you could use to back this argument. It's going to be a loaded speech.

  12. I definitely agree, especially with Jennifer cause I saw that video as well and it drives me nuts when others see something bad happening and continue to ignore it! Looking forward to you next speech!

  13. I agree with your thesis. I think that more people need to be more comfortable doing "the right thing"

  14. This sounds great but is so broad. What is harm? Who is your nieghbor? How? When? Defiantly needs to be narrowed.

  18. I would agree. But I also think that this society operate under the rules of law that based on fairness and wellfare of every individuals. When one's fairness is violated, the law enforcement systems would intervene to solve the problem. I think the ideal ways to protect the citizen is to dial 911. This would ensure the safety of the hostages and the rescuers as well because the rescuers, the police officers, had undergone appropriate training for this role. I think that unlike batman or superman, a civilian hero have the mind to protect the citizen, but doesn't have the power, a civilian in a heroic costume would caused more chaos in a society rather then peace and security.

  19. I agree that we should stand up for what is right, but not everybody has the capability of defending someone else or being able to go in to a knife fight and protect ourselves with a suit. I think the best way is to call the police, but what i think i am getting from your claim is that no matter what the danger you should do something which i agree with.
