Jack's thesis

We should not allow Initiative-1183 to pass.

  1. I disagree. Even though alcohol will become more available and there is greater opportunity for minors to get their hands on it, I believe that the minor issue is an issue no matter if the current system stays in place or 1183 becomes law. The additional tax revenue will have a greater impact on needed programming funds that have been cut due to the economy. In my opinion, the state should be in the business of enforcement, not being a retailer and following what so many other states have implemented. Submitted by Allan.

  3. I agree, however, I have to admit that I don’t know much about this topic. However, I think that the more available alcohol is the more likely there is to be an increase in drinking.

  4. I agree, although I am not an expert in this topic I read the Jibsheet newspaper and I don't think that we should be able to sell and distribute hard alcohol because it will alter Washingtons powers. Also I don't think it is fair to shut down state liquor stores. Veronica.

  5. I agree. I don't want to fear getting into an accident with a drunk driver if Initiative-1183 gets passed and more people have a convenient way to purchase alcohol.

  6. This should NOT be passed. Adults should have acess to alcohol at gas stations or supermarkets. If people are worried about minors getting their hands on it then the government need to do a better job at implementing certain procedures to verify a persons age. The govenment should not have control of liquor sales, they create a monopoly but doing this. I dont think people will drink more if this get's passed. It's just like if marijuana were to suddenly be legal, I still would not smoke it. Because I dont like it, it's common sense in my opinion. -Jennifer

  7. I totally agree with Jennifer. I think this should not be passed since the government just want to have more profits to improve the economy system.

  8. I disagree. Inattentive 1183, if passed, it provides vitally needed new revenues for state and local public services. It strengthens laws governing the sale of liquor and provides additional revenue for public safety programs. It gets the state government out of the business of distributing and selling liquor. This will allow the state to focus on enforcing state liquor laws and regulating liquor sales.

  9. I disagree with this statement. People who want to purchase hard liquor will find a way to do it, underage or not. I believe it should be sold in grocery stores and other convenient stores; the government should not control liquor sales.

  10. I agree with your statement. I think you made a very important point that revenue collected from this new bill will most likely need to be used for hospitals, treatment programs etc. This is one of the most controversial issues in the class, can't wait to hear what you have to say.

  11. I cannot give an exact opinion. I see that in Europe, this has already been going on for a long time yet in my experience many people drink there and its part of the culture. Here too many are prone to alcoholism, of which I am strongly against. Excited for your next speech!

  12. I don't really know my stand right now for this issue. All I can be sure is that if people, underage or not, want to buy liquor, they will find ways to buy it and the Initiative- 1183 won't be able to stop them. To me, what really matters is how the revenue generated will be used. - Noreen.

  13. Minors will get alcohol one way or another! They get it now even though it is sold in a liquor store...

  14. Include how in Nevada and other state, liquor is already selling in grociary stores and what results have been with that. I think it would help those who disagree with you, grasp the possibility more and feel more safe

  15. I disagree. 1183 will not cause more drunk driving accidents, irresponsible people are what cause them. You cant blame the products only the user. And from an economical standpoint, there will be certain benefits if the inititive passes

  16. I disagree. Although alcohol will be available more often, fines are going to double for those caught selling to minors. Also, voting no on this initiative will only continue giving money to the government and we have no idea what it's being used for. - Jamie

  17. I disagree, because I don't think it will not make people willing to buy alcohol and government can be going to get tax from that. Shuntaro

  20. I agree with you on this, however i think you need more reasons to back up this claim then just "it will be easier for teens to drink" look at the actual bill, not adds that have parts of the bill in them, i don't view that as a creditable source.-Anna
