I agree we as a society should be more understanding and flexible with the homeless. Many people have become homeless due to the economy and we should put in place measures to help these individuals get back on their feet and get their confidence back. The movie with Will Smith is a tear jerker and shows how with a little break and hard work and dedication someone can get back on their feet and be a better person than they were. Submitted by Allan.
I agree that we need to help the homeless. It is important to help the homeless in any way we can. I think the number of drug rehabilitation programs should be increased and made more accessible. Donating to food banks can also help a lot as can donating clothing and blankets. My church collects food, clothes, and blankets several times a year and gives them out to the homeless in Seattle. We’ve heard back from a couple of people who were very grateful for the help.
I agree that we should help the homeless. It's very important and we should provide more drug rehabilitation programs and better housing for them. I am always open to helping the homeless because my Dad was once homeless and I couldn't fathom being in his position. Veronica.
I agree. We should try to take better care of the homeless in our communities. I think most of us want to help but don't know how or feel overwhelmed with the many needs.
I agree. Homeless has to face with many circumstance and need to have a good care from Government, especially in health and basic need. As each of us is a part of this society, we should give a hand to help them overcome those circumstances.
I agree, if they want help and really want recovery then they should by all means have that opportunity. What shall we do about the homeless who refuse treatment? Forcing someone into recovery is never a good idea. -Jennifer
I agree. We should help the homeless by providing better shelters and effective drug rehab programs. We also need to provide them with some types of employment and a program motivating them to work.
I agree. Although I'm not sure that I know if the programs and housing that we have available are adequate or not. Obviously there need to be more housing because of the increase in homeless people but do we have enough drug rehabilitation programs or not. I would find it difficult to get some homeless addicts or addicts at all, to go to rehab in the first place. Submitted by Jessica
I agree with this statement. After hearing you talk about the housing that is available to the homeless it is simply not enough. Also, the drug rehabilitation opportunity is a great add on.
I agree! A lot of the time the homeless are used as a scapegoat to funnel feelings of uneasiness about their city. Homeless aren't the problem, they are a product of the the problem. This speech should be good, looking forward to it!
I agree, people need to give out a lending hand to help in some way with the homeless. Its not like they are a different race or a bug, its our neighbors and part of our society of which we need to be helping! Looking forward to your next speech! Monika
I agree with your thesis. I don't think the homeless would choose to live the way they do now if they had the choice. To help them to get back to the normal life, assistance should be given to help them start out. - Noreen
Cool. Don't we already do that especially in Seattle? Or perhaps you're talking about a different area in the States? Maybe clairify where exactly this is a problem? I've visited clinics where homeless people did recieve free drug help in Seattle - naomi
I agree, but i think that there needs to be enforcement to make sure that the homeless people go to the meetings and programs that they need to and show that its not just a free ride but that they need to work hard to earn respect in the world and a job.-Anna

ReplyDeleteBesides housing and drugs, is there other aspects we should also look at? How should this be funded?
