I agree. While my wife likes watching this show and I am a parent of two girls that love princess things and who have participated in fashion shows raising money for charities I don’t agree with the values and how this show portrays these girls. This show is giving these girls a false sense of identity as body image and beauty are more important than who they are as a person. Are the parents pushing their children to participate based on their social background (not being accepted when they were younger) or are the kids wanting to participate in this? Submitted by Allan.
i disagree. I watch the show toddlers and tiaras and i think that what the girls are doing is appropriate and does not "sexualize"them. having little girls like the girls in toddlers and tiaras compete in pageants is just like having little girls who do ballet or any other sport. the girls get to dress up and compete on stage after practice and preparation, and i don't see anything wrong with that. ....... I am unsure about this topic. I had heard of the show prior to your speech but never took the time to watch it. I don't really think it's harmful to put your daughter in Pageants if the parent and child thinks its fun. But if they are pushing there children to do it, that's another story. VM
I agree. Many TV shows have skewed the idea of how one should live and what is important in life. When children watch these shows, they are constantly bombarded with images of rich, handsome men and female fashion model-types, and exposed to materialistic ideals. I agree that we in general and parents in particular should consider what is good for their children to watch.
I agree with the point of this argument. I am not familiar with this show, but there are many other "reality TV show" about the life of super rich, spoiled kids with no real entertaining, or educational values.
I agree with this statement. I think the show toddlers and tiaras exploits the young girls and many times it seems the mother is more into it than the child. However I do not believe that young girls should be unable to be in beauty pageants if they desire.
I agree with your position on this topic. I think it's great that you narrowed down your topic to the specific show you used for an example in your informative speech. You will really be able to present the details that are bothersome in this way. I like it!
I definitely agree with this topic, I really do not like what these pageants are turning little girls into even if it is a way for them to have fun and "dress up." I am really looking forward on how you are going to persuade everyone about your opinion on this. Monika
I do not think there is a need for that. I have watched the show and however absurd I find the moms in that show are, I don't think the content and requirements need to be revised necessarily. Child beauty pageants are not for everyone obviously and people who enter are all who understand the rules and are willing to play with it. Other people may not like it but the show is just one that documented the process. Audiences should do some critical thinking when watching the show but for me, that is almost all they have to do. - Noreen
great interesting fresh topic! If you were able to interview a mom who participated her daughter in a pageant as a young girl, it would win you some points :) -naomi
I agree with this statement. I've watched the show many of times and you can see that although sometimes the girls like getting dressed up, it's too much for them. It's obvious the mothers are living their dreams through their toddlers. - Jamie
I completely agree, the show makes young girls think that to be loved by someone they need to dress like a puffed up barbie doll. This should not be there goal at such a young age and having such strict gender roles thrown down at them.-Anna

ReplyDeleteI agree. There have been too many cases where child stars are neglected or pushed beyond their limits due to entertainment purposes.

I agree, this show is out of control. It's gross and I believe boderline child abuse what some of these mothers are doing to their children. -Jennifer

ReplyDeleteI agree. Those children are too young to make decision such as being a pageant. Duc
